Mississippi Mortgage Broker Requirements

Mortgage brokers in Mississippi are licensed and regulated by the Mortgage Lending Division of the Mississippi Department of Banking and Consumer Finance.

Mortgage brokers seeking a Mississippi mortgage license are not required to maintain a physical office within the state of Mississippi, but must register with the Secretary of State. Mortgage brokers are required to have either two (2) years of mortgage lending experience or documentation of passage of an examination covering mortgage lending which has been approved by the Department of Banking and Consumer Finance.

Applicants must maintain a surety bond in the amount of $25,000. Any owner with at least a 25% stake in the company must undergo a background check and submit fingerprint cards.

Mississippi Mortgage Licensing Fees

The state of Mississippi charges a license fee in the amount of $750. Loan originators pay a $100 license fee and each branch office must submit a $100 license fee.
